Wabi Chabi's Medium Rosted Hojicha - 30g
Our Izumo Stem Hojicha is crafted from carefully selected stems separated during the production of premium tencha — the same prized tea leaves traditionally used for matcha. These stems are slowly medium-roasted to unlock their naturally smooth character before being finely stone-ground into a delicate powder.
The result is a remarkably mellow hojicha with a soft roasted aroma, subtle sweetness, and an exceptionally clean finish
Izumo’s fertile soil, temperate climate, and longstanding tea tradition create ideal conditions for producing teas of remarkable consistency and character — making it a respected origin in the world of Japanese tea.

Frequently asked questions
Where is this made?
Made in Japan. We work with certified tea masters with over 100+ years of tea growing heritage from Izumo, Japan.
What cultivar do you use? Is it ceremonial grade?
We use the esteemed Yabukita cultivar, Japan’s most celebrated and time-honoured tea varietal. Renowned for its balance of umami, gentle sweetness, and vibrant green hue, Yabukita represents the benchmark of premium matcha.
Our matcha is crafted for traditional preparation and refined daily rituals. While “ceremonial grade” is an unregulated marketing term, we focus instead on cultivar, shading, harvest timing, and milling precision — the true markers of excellence.
Why does it not come in tin can?
We chose a UV-protected, airtight pouch because it offers superior protection against light and oxidation — the two main factors that degrade matcha’s color, aroma, and nutrients.
This allows us to prioritise exceptional Japanese sourcing and research over decorative packaging.
Is your matcha single origin?
Yes. Our matcha is single origin, sourced from carefully selected estates in Japan known for their exceptional terroir and tea-growing heritage. This ensures consistency, traceability, and a true expression of the region.
Is it shade-grown? For how long?
The tea plants are shade-grown for approximately 30 days prior to harvest. This traditional practice elevates chlorophyll levels, deepens umami, and enhances L-theanine — resulting in a smoother, more complex cup.
